Tana Sommer painting a wall mural in Santa Barbara
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Santa Barbara artist Tana Sommer celebrates the joys of life in her oil paintings (landscapes, seascapes, food, flowers), vineyard etchings, waterdolors, and murals, with sensuality, strength, and humor. She enlivens her paintings with the ebullient, effervescent, and upbeat colors of California and Provence. Nature is the uniting theme thoughout her accessible work.
Tana says: "I celebrate life by painting Nature's gifts to us - the land, the plantlife, vegetables, fruits, the sea and sky. I want my paintings to evoke the incredible energy and beauty that surround us and to inspire people to seek out special atmospheres, create them, marvel at where they live, and savor life in general."
A native Californian and longtime Santa Barbaran, Tana has worked as an
artist for over thirty years in California, Ireland, Holland, and for ten
of these years in Provence, France.
Tana Sommer's work has been shown in one-man and group exhibitions in San
Francisco, Santa Barbara, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Paris, Forcalquier, and
Aix-en-Provence, and is in private collections in Denmark, England, France,
Switzerland, and the United States including Arizona, California, Hawaii,
New Mexico, New York, Washington, and Washington D.C.
